10 Ways to Celebrate YOU on Valentine’s Day

Need some Valentine’s Day self-care ideas? I’ll be completely honest: I hate Valentine’s Day. I hate it when I’m in a relationship, and when I’m single. I’ve just always had this mindset that your partner doesn’t need a day to make you feel special. They should be doing that in some way every single day.

And then there’s the commercialization of it all. Even if you’re in a happy relationship, the expectations become even higher. You may be happy with the flowers you received, but then you open Instagram and see a friend’s even bigger bouquet or shopping spree, and it makes you feel a little bad.

Honestly, a quiet night in relieves a lot of that pressure. No matter what your relationship status, you can enjoy a relaxing night at home celebrating your awesome self!

10 Valentine’s Day Self-Care Ideas

Pamper Yourself

1. DIY Spa Day – This would normally be an amazing time to go to the spa, but you can still have an amazing time at home. Plus, you’ll save a lot more money. Grab your bestie or partner (in person or on FaceTime) and try some of my favorites: a clay mud mask, a DIY mani/pedi, and a nice bath with lavender bath salts, candles, and music. Don’t forget the wine!

2. Spoil Yourself – Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to splurge on a little somethin’ somethin’ for yourself. It doesn’t need to be fancy either! It could be a purse you’ve been eyeing since last Christmas, a cute satin pajama set, or just a really good takeout meal.

3. Read a Good Book – Remember when we all said we were going to read more? Yeah, that didn’t happen…BUT, there’s no reason you can’t start now. Let yourself get carried away in a great story or read some salacious details about your favorite celeb. Hey, a book is a book! (A Kindle Paperwhite makes reading in bed even better.)

4. Take the Day Off – Sometimes, all you need is some downtime where you do absolutely nothing. Don’t feel bad about it either. We’re all in need of some TLC, so it’s okay to be gentle with yourself. Lounge around in bed, take a long shower, and cuddle with your pets while bingeing some trash TV. Sounds amazing to me!

5. Get Some Chores Done – Okay, I know this doesn’t sound glamorous or romantic, but it’s so nice having things clean and organized. Even if you just start with something small, like a project you’ve been putting off or washing your sheets, I guarantee you will feel better.

Make It a Night to Remember

6. Cook an Amazing Meal – Find a recipe you’ve been wanting to try, or even something simple in a Crock-Pot that will make your home smell amazing all day. Then curl up and eat your favorite meal.

7. Reach Out to Family and Friends – This is the perfect time to catch up with your loved ones. Especially if they’re living on their own, they would definitely appreciate the fact that you were thinking about them.

8. Get All Dressed Up with Nowhere to Go – Did you buy a gown for a black-tie wedding that you never got to wear? Can’t remember what your partner looks like outside of sweatpants? Go all out (get dressed up in separate rooms if you can), even if all you do is eat pizza on your couch again.

9. Toast Your Love with an Amazing Wine or Cocktail – Love might be blind, but taste buds don’t have to be. This Valentine’s Day, give the best to yours truly and don’t be afraid to splurge a bit. Get something that is the perfect combination of smooth and sweet, and pour it into a pretty wine glass or mix it up with a cocktail shaker set.

10. Watch a Rom-Com (a Really Good One) – Pretty Woman is a great classic to start with. The Five-Year Engagement is one of my favorites because it’s funny and super entertaining. If you couldn’t tell…I’m not really a fan of mushy.
